Gynaecology (from the Greek γυνή gyne"woman" and -logia, "study") is the medical practice dealing with the health of the female reproductive systems (vagina, uterus, ovaries) and the breasts.

In medicine, the main tools of diagnosis are clinical history and examination. Thus, woman is advised to choose a gynaecologist that she trusts and is comfortable with. Common relevant history includes private matters such as last menstrual period, vaginal discharge and issue with sexual intercourse.

Gynaecological examination is quite intimate affair which involve breast and pelvic examination. Pelvic examination requires the speculum, an instrument used to retract the tissues of the vagina and permit examination of the cervix.

Nowadays, more women have the opportunity to choose a doctor whom she trusts and feels comfortable with and have the empowerment to decline any examination or procedure that she does not want to go through.
